How To Improve Self-Esteem – Tips and Technics.

How to improve self-esteem

How to improve self-esteem is about the basic things you have to change about yourself. Which definitely help you to improve self-esteem.

Dr. Sidney Simon once wrote a story called “The IALAC Story.” The story is about a boy who wore an invisible sign around his neck that said IALAC. The letters stood for “I AM LOVABLE AND CAPABLE.”

Pieces of the IALAC sign would be torn off whenever the young fellow had conflicts with his parents, peers, teachers, and even himself. Every time he lost a portion of his self-esteem, another part of the sign was ripped off.

Can you identify with that? Have pieces of your IALAC sign been torn away?

A healthy sense of self-esteem is vital to a successful life.

How To Improve Self-esteem Effects:

Our self-esteem determines the kind of person we marry. A woman is on her second alcoholic, abusive husband. Why do some people seem to attract losers? It has something to do with the way they see themselves, doesn’t it?

Affect On Career, Job, and Money:

Once a person with high self-esteem obtains that better-paying position, he or she is more likely than someone with low self-esteem to be successful in performing that job.

Henry Ford was absolutely right when he said, “Whether you think you can or think you can’t, you are probably right.”

Martin Seligman, a professor of psychology at the University of Pennsylvania, surveyed representatives of a major life insurance company.

He found that a positive attitude dramatically affected job performance.

Among the established representatives he found that those who expected a successful outcome sold 37% more insurance than those with a negative attitude.

Among new employees, he found that those with positive outlooks sold 20% more insurance than their more negative colleagues.

A positive attitude leads to success, and people with positive attitudes usually have higher self-esteem.

Our level of self-esteem affects how well we are paid.

When you have high self-esteem, you put higher value on your services. There are some people who, if they were allowed to set their own salary, would set it lower than their boss would.

People with high self-esteem are healthier than those with low self-esteem. Their positive attitudes actually help them live longer and have fewer accidents. The reasons for this are numerous.

For one thing, people with high self-esteem feel guilty less often than people with low self-esteem.

Guilt is one of the major causes of depression, sleeplessness, high blood pressure, and asthma, so people with high self-esteem are not as prone to those ailments.

Another reason why people with high self-esteem are healthier is that they are much less likely to engage in self-destructive behavior.

  6. How we handle decisions.
  7. Our moral behavior.

Do you hate to make decisions? Low sense of self-esteem.

Here is a list of some of the benefits of high self-esteem which were found by the Gallup organization in a Poll commissioned by Dr. Robert Schuller:

1) High moral & ethical sensitivity

2) Strong sense of family

3) More successful in interpersonal relationships

4) Success viewed in terms of interpersonal relationships, not materialism

5) Productivity high

6) Low in chemical addictions

7) More involved in local & political causes

8) More generous to charitable organizations

High self-esteem is not a luxury, but a necessity.

Need To Improve Self-esteem :

Getting along comfortably with other people, and forming lasting, mature relationships.

It means living from day to day without feelings of guilt, fear, or regret. The courage in the face of adversity or change, and the ability to take charge when others are afraid to do so.

Self-esteem means avoiding self-destructive behavior and actions that cause others pain. It results in openness and sharing, respect for others, and genuine benevolence.

Self-esteem is “I Can” rather than “I can’t.”

According to psychologists, developing self-esteem begins in early childhood when we are very sensitive to the way in which others perceive us.

As children we build our self-esteem upon what we hear about ourselves from others.

How To Improve Self-Esteem? Technics:

A]We can choose the way we view ourselves:

A recent study of 300 highly successful people, people like Franklin Delano Roosevelt, Helen Keller, Winston Churchill, Albert Schweitzer, Mahatma Gandhi, and Albert Einstein, reveals that one-fourth had disabilities: blindness, deafness, crippled limbs.

Three-fourths had either been born in poverty, came from broken homes, or at least came from exceedingly tense or disturbing situations.

What, then, is the difference? Somewhere along the way that executive had something happen in his or her life that increased the feeling of “Can do.”

He or she began to believe his or her rightful place was at the top and proceeded to do those things that made success not only possible but almost inevitable.

There are three vantage points from which you can proceed to reach success in your life. You can choose to be successful, to believe in yourself, and to have positive images about your future.

Or, you can choose the path of failure, leading a life filled with negative images and actions that give you nothing and create dissatisfaction. The choice is yours.

B] Make Up A List Of Positive Things About Yourself:

Everybody’s got a few good points. Some people can work with their hands. Some people are good listeners.

Be as objective as possible, and don’t downplay your good points or be too modest.

Use this list as a daily reference. For the next several weeks read your list at least twice a day, once in the morning and once in the evening, stroking yourself for these good attributes.

This simple process will help you to reinforce the positive feelings you have about yourself. Again, don’t worry about your areas of weakness.

You can take care of these later. You need to have the attitude of the shapely young lady in the T-shirt: “I’m not perfect . . . but parts of me are excellent.”

C] Value Your Uniqueness To Iimprove Self-Esteem:

We are all different. Don’t be intimidated if you are not like everybody else. The Creator never intended you to be.

The special way in which you express yourself on a day to day basis, either through your talents or hobbies, is a valuable component of your self-image.

You should never try to inhibit yourself by mindless conformity. No matter how much you’ve tried to fit in all these years, you must come to realize that the successful person is the person who stands out from the crowd.

Be a person who is different enough to be remembered.

Strict conformity can be a loss in that it makes you feel more inhibited and causes you to be noticed by others less often. So take pride in your non-conforming qualities and make sure others know about them.

D] Picture In Your Mind Help To Improve Self-Esteem:

effect on health

Picture in your mind the kind of person you would like to be. Athletes use this technique before a big competition to psyche themselves into winning.

Visualization is powerful stuff. Is there some change you would like to make in your life? Visualize yourself as having already made it. Act accordingly–and you will have taken the most crucial step in achieving it.

That means, of course, that you will have to give ourselves permission to dream.

E] Learn to talk to yourself positively:

We have already noted the destructiveness of negative self-talk. “I’m no-good. I can’t do anything right.

There’s no hope for me.” Some of you may have a tape-recorder in your brain that will continually chastise you for just being human.

Usually, the things your tape recorder tells you are wrong. For example, that tape recorder almost always speaks in generalities. It will tell you, “you always say the wrong thing.” That’s absurd.

I’m certain that some time in your life you’ve said the right thing at least once.

In fact, you say some right things every day. Things like, “You did a good job on that. That’s a pretty dress. I love you.”

No, the truth is that it is very rare that you say the wrong thing, but when it does happen, you blow it all out of proportion and punish yourself with all kinds of critical–and completely false–self-talk.

You’re going to tell yourself every day for the next 21 days, “I am a graceful and poised person. I have the knack of doing the right thing in all situations.”

Remember, your subconscious believes whatever it is told. It’s been given all those negative messages all those years and it has believed them– regardless of how faulty they may be.

Usually 21 straight days of telling ourselves a certain message will be required before the subconscious really starts believing it.

F] Set Goals For Yourself and Improve Self-Esteem:

Be realistic in the setting of goals, of course. Don’t set yourself up for failure by absurd goals. The failure will plunge your self-esteem lower than it was before. Choose attainable goals.

I will never look like Brad Pitt. That would be an absurd goal. But I could lose a little fat. Gain a little muscle. Improve my posture, etc.

G] Strive To Be Decisive Important To Improve:

People with low self-esteem often hate to make decisions. The failure to make a decision, in turn, lowers our self-esteem.

H] Build Up Your Relationship With God:

connect with god

Let your faith tell you who you are–a child of God.

We are surrounded by people who come to us in ordinary cardboard boxes.

Yet, some of them are diamonds on the inside. And they don’t even know it. Maybe you fall into this category.

If so, perhaps something has happened in these last few class sessions to help you rip off the layers of ordinary wrapping and let the diamond show through. You are lovable and capable. You are a child of God.
